Containment Vessel Tendon Evaluation Program R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-244

Dear Mr. Crutchfield:

In our letter dated November 21> 1983'e submitted a preliminary report on the 1983 Tendon Surveillance Program. The final report (GAI Report No. 2512) has been completed and is included as Attachment A. It was concluded that "the forces in the tendons are being maintained at the levels expected'nd no abnormal force losses have occurred." Also included as Attachment B is GAI Report No. 2499 on the tendon wire stress relaxation tests conducted at Lehigh University.

In our letter I dated June 13, 1983, we responded to your letter dated March 8, 1983. The above reports complete our response to Staff Comment no. 8. Staff Comment no. llai which questions the need for future tendon retensioning is addressed in GAI Report No. 2512, section 2.5. A report on the tendon load cell monitoring program will be submitted by April 1, 1984 in response to Staff Comment no. 10. This submittal will complete our response to open items in the above referenced letter.

The next tendon surveillance is scheduled for Julyi 1986.

Based upon the results of the 1983 Tendon Surveillance Program>

the tendons will maintain their integrity in accordance with the requirements of the Technical Specifications.
