,t This letter transmits the Safety Evaluation on the safe shutdown capability in the event of fire at the R.

E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant.

The safe shutdown capability was evaluated against the requirements of Section III.G.3 and III.L Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50.

We conclude that your design for alternate safe shutdown is in accordance with Appendix R,Section III.G.3 and III.L requirements.

We have completed our review of the Ginna fire protection program.

A regional inspection to determine Appendix R compliance will be conducted in the future.

Any modifications you require must be completed in accordance with the schedule given in the exemption to Section 50.48(c)(4) of the regulations issued on May 10, 1984.

This action addresses only the safe shutdown capability of your plant evaluated against the requirements of Sections III.G.3 and III.L of Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50.

Your request of October 4, 1984 and supplemented on January 16, 1985 for specific exemptions from the requirements of Section III.G will be the subject of a separate action.
