Dear Dr. Morris:

This is in response to your letter of July 16 in which you requested additional information to confirm '1:hat the performance of the ECCS for Dresden Units 2 and 3 is in compliance with the criteria of Sections IV A and B of )the interim policy statement.

Based on an analysis we have concluded, the performance of the Dresden 2 and 3 ECCS systems is the same as the Quad Cities ECCS system.

Information concerning the Quad Cities.

ECCS was submitted to you in Amendment 27.

We have arrived

The emergency core cooling systems employed at Dresden 2 and 3 are identical to those at Quad Cities; that is, they consist of two core spray systems, a low pressure coolant injector system, an automatic pressure relief system and a HPCI system.

Although the power level of Quad Cities is 16 MW thermal lower than Dresden 2 and 3 (difference in the design of the clean up system), the loss of coolant accident analyses were performed from the same operating condition that* is a MCHFR of 1.9 and a linear heat generation of 17.5 KW per foot.

The break spectrum analyzed for Dresden and Quad Cities for both liquid and steam breaks are the same.

This can be seen by a comparison of Figures 6.2.1 of the Dresden and Quad Cities FSAR.

The arrangement of the electrical equipment of the ECCS on the diesel generator buses is the same for Dresden and Quad Cities.

The peaking factors used in the analyses of the Quad Cities and Dresden ECCS were identical.

Based on the above, we request that the material submitted for Quad Cities Units 1 and 2 in Amendment 27 con-cerning the ECCS performance be incorporated in the Dresden 2 and 3 dockets by reference.
