St. Lucie Unit 2 Docket No. 50-389 Fracture Mechanics Analysis of Pressurizer Instrument Nozzle Flaws Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3),
Florida Power and Light Company requests approval of the enclosed Fracture Mechanics Analysis for the Unit 2 pressurizer instrument nozzle welds.
The 1989 edition of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section XI, IWB-3610(e) requires the licensee to submit evaluation procedures to the regulatory authority having jurisdiction for approval.
In order to prevent delay of entry into operational Mode 4,
approval is requested by April 4, 1994.
A drawing of the repair weld configuration (Enclosure
- 1) and a copy of the Fracture Mechanics Analysis for the Unit 2 pressurizer instrument nozzle welds (Enclosure 2) are enclosed.
The report uses the methods of ASME Section XI Appendix A and conservative inputs and assumptions to conclude that the Unit 2 Pressurizer safety margins will be conservatively satisfied for the next operating cycle.
