50-335 and 50-389 Antici ated Transients Without Scram On March 1, 1989, Florida Power 6 Light Company (FPL) met with the NRC to discuss the conceptual design of the St. Lucie Units 1 and 2 plant modifications to meet 10 CFR 50.62, "Requirements for reduction of risk"from anticipated transients without scram (ATWS) events for light-water-cooled nuclear power plants."
In that
- meeting, the Staff requested bi-monthly updates on the modifications implementation'tatus.
Attached is the status of the 10 CFR 50.62 modifications at St.
Lucie Units 1 and 2 as of January 15, 1990.

ATTACHMENT 10 CFR 50 '2 IMPLEMENTATION STATUS AS OF JANUARY 15'990 ST LUCIE UNITS 1 AND 2 The status of engineering activities for implementation of 10 CFR 50.62 is:
Unit 1 The engineering package for the Diverse Scram System (DSS) is complete.
The final engineering package was issued on December 8,
1989.
The engineering package for AuxiliaryFeedwater Actuation System (AFAS) matrix relay card replacement is complete.
The final package was issued on December 4,
1989.
The final Eguipment Qualification Report for the modified Engineered Safety Features Actuation System (ESFAS) cabinets was received on January 5,
1990.
Unit 2 The preliminary design of the ESFAS and AFAS modifications is continuing and approximately 20%
complete.

The status of procurement activities for implementation of 10 CFR 50.62 is:
Consolidated Controls Corporation (CCC):
Unit 1 The module production is completed for the ESFAS cabinet portion of the DSS.
Delivery of hardware is expected by January 31, 1990.
Final documentation of the ESFAS panel modification fabrication and field drawings has been received from CCC.
Unit 2 A purchase order was placed with CCC on November 17, 1989.
Combustion Engineering (CE):
Unit 1 Production of the AFAS Matrix Relay Cards is complete and the cards have been delivered to the St.
Lucie Plant site.
Final documentation for the AFAS Matrix Relay Cards has been received from CE.
Unit 2 The Technical Bid Evaluation of CE's proposal for the AFAS Matrix Relay Cards is complete.
A Purchase Order is to be.placed by January 19, 1990.
Other Procurement:
Units 1
& 2 The load contactors have been received onsite.
Delivery of all other hardware is expected by February 15, 1990.
Modifications are on schedule for ATWS modifications implementation at both St.
Lucie Units 1
and 2 during the currently scheduled calendar year 1990 refueling outages.
