MARCH 6
1989 L-89-85 Mr. Stewart D. Ebneter Regional Administrator, Region II U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 101 Marietta Street, N.W., Suite 2900
- Atlanta, GA 30323 Re:
Nuclear Em lo ee Data S stem NEDS
Dear Mr. Ebneter:
-For the past couple of years, Florida Power
& Light (FPL) has been considering an affiliation with Nuclear Employee Data System (NEDS) or Integrated Nuclear Data Exchange System (INDEX) for processing of transient workers at our nuclear sites.
Since
- December, 1988, my staff has been working and meeting with other Region II utility representatives in evaluating and assessing these systems to determine if a benefit could be obtained by selecting one system for Region,II utilities.
A meeting was held in January, 1989 where the representatives from six Region II utilities reached a
consensus on the selection of NEDS.
Many aspects of NEDS involve information and record retention that involve NRC regulations, including draft regulations and policy statements.
The utilities in Region II interested in affiliating with NEDS believe that a meeting with your staff may be beneficial to all parties.
I would like to suggest a meeting in,mid to late March at your office to discuss the collection, retention, and updating of contractor information by using the NEDS system.
Ms.
D.
A. Brodnick (407-694-3615),
Nuclear Energy Security, can be contacted to assist in arranging this meeting.
Very truly yours,
$/Z~~~
