September 1987 NPDES DMR St. Lucie Plant Serial No. @06 Low Effluent'H A pH of 5:6 std. units was observed for the Unit 1 sewage treatment plant effluent on September 30, 1987 at 8:35 a.m.

Addition of soda ash to the system raised the pH to 6.0 std.

units by 9:05 a.m. the same day. Apparently a small amount of an acidic solution was inadvertantly added to the sewage system from an undetermined location on the plant site.

To prevent future occurrences, influent samples will be analyzed daily so any abnormal conditions can be observed and corrected before they reach the plant effluent. Also, a memo way distributed to all department supervisors instructing them to remind their employees not to dispose of any acidic wastes in the sewage system.

No adverse effects to the environment were observed.
