SUBJECT'SE OF AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS (ASME) CODE CASE N-416 FOR ST.
LUCIE PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 By letter dated May 28, 1986, you requested authorization to use ASME Code Case N-416, "Alternative Rules for Hydrostatic Testing of Repair or Replacement of Class 2 Piping,Section XI, Division I," at the St.
Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2.
The staff has reviewed your request and determined that Code Case N-416 is an acceptable Code Case which is approved as written with no additional requirements other than those specified in the Code Case.
The Code Case is expected to be endorsed by the NRC in a future revision of Regulatory Guide
- 1. 147, "Inservice Inspection Code Case Acceptability, ASME Section XI, Division 1."
Code Case N-416 may, therefore, be used at the St.
Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2
with the limitations stated in the "Inquiry" and "Reply" sections of the Code Case.
This conclusion is based upon our determination that Code Case N-416 provides an acceptable level of quality and safety which is required pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3).
Furthermore, the use of the Code Case should be documented in a future revision to the FSAR for St.
Lucie Plant, Units 1 and 2.
