ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF ELECTRIC E(UIPMENT IMPORTANT TO SAFETY, ST.

LUCIE PLANT, UNIT NO.

1 The staff has completed its review of your submittals dealing with the environmental qualification of electric equipment important to safety for St. Lucie Plant, Unit No.

1 for compliance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49, the licensee s proposed resolutions for the deficiencies identified in the Safety Evaluation (SE) dated April 21, 1983 and the February 28, 1983 Franklin Research Center Technical Evaluation Report enclosed with the SE, and justifications for continued operation.

On May 8,

1984, a meeting was held with members of your staff to discuss your proposed method of resolution for each of the environmental qualifica-tion deficiencies identified.

Discussions also included your general methodology for compliance with 10 CFR 50.49, "Environmental gualification of Electric Equipment Important to Safety for Nuclear Power Plants," which became effective February 22, 1983, and justifications for continued opera-tion (JCO) for those items of equipment for which environmental qualification is not yet complete.

You addressed the above subjects and documented the discussions held at the meeting by your letter of July 12, 1984.

Based on discussions during the meeting and the results of our review of your July 12, 1984 submittal, we have concluded that your Equipment guali-fication Program is in compliance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.49, that the proposed resolution for each of the environmental qualification 84g20bOb27 8411<5 PDR ADOCK 05000335 P
