SUBJECT:
NATURAL CIRCULATION COOLDOMN The staff has completed its review of your analyses of upper head voiding under natural circulation cooldown conditions.
Vour submittals of August 25, September 16, October 17, and December 30, 1980.
February 9, 1981 and March l.
1983 were in response to our requests for additional information of July 8, 1980 and January 3, 1983.
Based on our review, we have concluded that your analyses are acceptable.
This conclusion is based upon your responses and the vendor's analyses that demonstrate compliance to present regulatory requirements.
This review did not include a review of guidelines and procedures that will be reviewed as a part of THI Action Item I.C.1.
As a part of this effort, you should review your programs to assure and confirm that the following items have been addressed:
a) how voiding occurs and its consequences, b) signs that voiding is occurring, c) discussion of procedures to prevent and mitigate voidingg d) discussion of the St. Lucie 1 event of June 11, 1980.
and e) proper simulator modelling of upper head voiding.
It is requested that the review of your programs be completed and a written confirmation that the above items have been addressed in your guidelines and procedures be provided within sixty (60) days of receipt of this letter.
