ENGINEERING VERIFICATION PROGRAM/SL-2 EBASCO TASK FORCE WEEKLY STATUS St&MARY FOR PERIOD AUGUST 30 SEPTEMBER 3,1982 1-Received balance of design inputs re the August 18 information request letter. Additional design input information was requested via a September 2

letter request.

3-Five additional qualified engineers have been assigned to the Task Force.

Three reported early this period, with the remaining two scheduled to report September 7.

A total of 17 qualified discipline engineers are now assigned on either a full-time or part-time basis.'cheduled overtime on a selective basis was instituted during the period.

5-Work progressed on the independent design review phase of the program, with

=- emphasis on priority items one (hydrogen recombiner) and two ( main steam isolation valve).

Calculations to confirm its acceptability during the injection mode are now in progress.

2 RE VEST FOR INFORMATION Please expedite providing us with the following design input information and/or answers to questions from the C-E Project Team relating to Verification Item 7,

'ain Steam Isolation Valve. If possible, initial receipt via telecopy would be appreciated.

1)

Does C-E require any feedback input from the MSIV position status?

2)

According to the FSAR, the MSIV has two failure modes:

a)

Valve fails close on loss of air; b)

Valve fails open on loss of electric power.

We feel that the MSIV should fail close on loss of air and/or e3,ectric power for fail safe operation.

Please advise.

3)

Please provide main steam system transient conditions to which valve has to be designed.

4)

Please provide steam break faulted conditi'ons (main steam condit'ions after steam line break).
