Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
Re:
RII:JPO 50-335 IE Bulletin 80-24 In accordance wtih Item 3 of the subject Bulletin we have reviewed the closed cooling water systems inside the St. Lucie Unit 1 containment.
During normal operation the Component Cooling Water System (CCW) is the only closed cooling water system covered by the Bulletin.
The following three instances of minor leakage of the CCW system into containment have occurred:
(1)
November 26, 1977 Relief valves I-SR-14307 and SR-14318 (CCW from A and B Containment Coolers respectively) leaked slightly.
(2)
September 26, 1978 Relief valve I-SR-14342 (CCW from D containment cooler) leaked slightly.
(3)
December 21, 1979 Relief valve I-SR-14342 (CCW from D containment cooler) leaked slightly.
The leaks were intermittent and apparently less than a gallon per minute when leaking.
The total flow into the containment sump varied from a "normal" of
<.25 gpm to a high of 0.7 gpm during the period of leakage.
CCW surge tank daily integrator readings varied from the normal of approximately 100 gallons/day to a high of 204 gallons/day on December 21, 1979.
The leaking valves were repaired and reset during subsequent refueling outages.
During the intervening periods, the leakage was monitored by CCW integrator readings, sump flow, and chemical analysis of sump water.
Five manhours were required to prepare this report.
Very truly yours, Robert E. Uhrig Vice President Advanced Systems and Technology REU/JEM/pah Attachment 8'xo vs xo/6W cc:
