ATTACHMENT Re: St. Lucie Unit 1 Docket No. 50-335 Containment Pur e The following information is supplied in response to a February 4, 1980 NRC Request for Additional Information regarding containment purging and venting system at St. Lucie Unit 1. The information is numbered to correspond to the numbering sequence in the Information Request.

l.a, l.b, 8 l.c Certain Safety Actuation Signals (SAS) can be blocked to allow normal plant operations (e.g., shutdown) without safeguards actuation. These blocks are key lock operated and can only be applied if certain conditions are met (RCS pressure less than Technical Specification Limit, Main Steam pressure less than Technical Specification Limit). Actuation of either of these blocks is annunciated at the system level and the blocks are automatically removed if the Technical Specification Limit is exceeded, which results in re-arming the SAS. In addition, blocking of either of these signals does not block any other SAS (e.g., high containment pressure). Several safeguard components can be overridden to the OFF position at the individual component control switch provided that a SAS is not present. This is separately annunciated for each component and there are administrative procedures restricting the use of this feature to ensure that limiting conditions for operation are met.

Individual channels of a SAS can be bypassed. Key lock switches are required and this action is annunciated at the system level. Only one channel of a given function can be bypassed at a time, this changes the initiating logic from a "two out of four" to a "two out of three" configuration.

l.d Containment isolation (CIS) is initiated from Containment High Radiation, Containment High Pressure or Safety Injection Actuation Signal.

l.e The instrumentation and control systems provided to initiate engineered safeguards (ESF) are designed and qualified as safety-grade equipment.

Resetting of the isolation signal will not cause the automatic motion of any ESF valve.
