0 REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR CONTAINMENT PURGE SYSTEM AND CONTAINMENT VENTING SYSTEM FOR ST.

LUCIE DOCKET NO. 50-335 Enclosure 1.

The docketed information as to the design of the purge system, contain-ment venting system, and other Engineered Safety Features (ESF) does not adequately address the following areas.

Please discuss how these designs conform with each item below:

a.

The overriding* of one type of safety actuation signal (e.g.,

radiation) should not cause the blocking of any other type of safety actuation signal (e.g., pressure) to the isolation valves.

b.

Sufficient physical features (e.g.,

key lock switches) should be provided to facilitate adequate administrative controls.

C.

d.

e.

The system-level annunciation of the overridden status should be provided for the containment isolation system and for every safety impacted when an override is active.

Diverse signals should be provided(to initiate isolation of the contaC'nment ventilation system.

S/ecifically, containment high radiation, safety injection actuati".on, and containment high pressure should automatically initiate Containment Ventilation Isolation (CVI).

The instrumentation and control systerh'rovided to initaite ESF should be designed and qualified as safety-grade equipment.

iII The overriding or resetting* of the isolation actuation signal should not cause the automatic motion of any ESF valve.

2.

Provide the process and instrumentation (PAID) and schematic drawings of your purge and vent system and control room heating, ventilation and air conditioning (CRHVAC) system.

hi Override - The signal is still present, and it is blocked in order to perform a function contrary to the signal.

Reset

- The signal has come and gone, and the circuit is being cleared to return to the normal condition.
