St. Lucie Unit 1
Docket No. 50-335 Show Cause Order In accordance with Section V of the Show Cause Order for St. Lucie Unit 1 issued on January 2,
1980, Florida Power 8 Light Company (FPL) is submitting the attached answer to show cause why St. Lucie Unit 1 should be allowed to continue to operate until the March refueling outage presently scheduled for March 15, 1980.
FPL will have all "Category A" requirements required to be completed by the Order, with the exception of valve position monitoring on the power operated relief valves (PORV's) and pressurizer safety valves, implemented by February 15, 1980.
FPL considers that delaying the installation of the valve position monitors on the PORV's and pressurizer safety valves for approximately one month beyond February 15, 1980 will not adversely affect the public health and safety, and requests that the Order be modified to permit implementation of the remaining requirement during the upcoming outage.
This request does not preclude the future submittal of information relative to power reliability, which-could provide additional justification for an extension of the implemen-tation date.
The purpose of this letter and the enclosed answer is to provide justification for the continued operation of St. Lucie Unit 1 until the March refueling outage and for modification of the Show Cause Order accordingly.
FPL does not request a hearing in this connection, and nei.ther this letter nor the enclosed answer constitute such a request.
