17. 1977, we requested that Florida Power and Light Company (FP8L) submit an evaluation of a postulated fuel handling accident in the Reactor Containment Building of St. Lucfe Ho. l.

The potential consequences of an accident involving the handling of spent fuel inside contafnment had not been analyzed previously for St. Lucfe, Unit Ho. 1.

By letter dated ttarch 21, 1977, you submitted that accfdent analysis which we have now reviewed.

Our calculations hhow that the potential consequences of the spent fuel handling accident may be greater than. your estimates.

Our cal--

culations do show, however, that the potential consequences of this accident are appropriate'ly within the expqsure guidelines of 10 CFR Part 100, and are therefore acceptable.
