Dear Mr. Reid:
Re:
St. Lucie Unit 1
Docket No. 50-335 Resistance Tem erature Detectors The purpose of this letter is to update the status of (1) our verification program for measuring Resistance Temperature Detector
( RTD) response time using the Loop Current Step
Response
(LCSR) technique, and (2) additional LCSR surveillance testing of safety-related RTD's.
Florida Power
& Light Company (FPL) letter L-78-346 of October 30,
- 1978, stated that receipt of new RTD's and thermowells (for use in the verification program) was expected in March of 1979.
At present, we have not received the material.
The RTD's are in transit, but the thermowells are not scheduled for shipment until April 13, 1979.
In addition, the Cycle 3
refueling outage is scheduled for April and May.
As a result of the procure-ment situation and the upcoming refueling outage, we have rescheduled
'the verification program to begin in June, 1979.
Testing, including preparation of a test report, is expected to take about three months, therefore, the test report should be submitted by September 1979.
The most recent surveillance testing of the 16 safety-related RTD's was performed in October, 1978.
The results were reported in FPL letter L-79-2 of January 3,
1979.
The testing will be repeated this month before Unit 1 is shutdown for refueling.
Allowing one month for evaluation of the surveillance test results, a
summary report should be submitted by April 30, 1979.
Very truly yours, Robert E. Uhrig Vice President Advanced Systems 8 Technology REU/MAS/cph cc:
