.September 20, 1990 (Enc 1 osure 1) to Mr. George J. Beek, Chairman of the BWR Owners' Group (BWROG), indicated that the staff's position on ARI trip unit.

(TU) diversity was the proper implementation of the ATWS Rule *. Specifically, the staff's position requires trip units in the ARI to be diverse from the

In the event that your plants do not conform to the staff's position on this matte*r, you should negotiate a schedule hi accordance with 10 CFR *so~62(d) with the appropriate project manager for ~ach of.these stations.

In his letter to the BWROG, the EDO also indicated that, nit should be recognized, that this is a generic po'sition and there could be reason for making exceptions in specific tases; however, no requests for relief are currently under.reviewr" Requests for relief from thh requirement should be submitted in accordance -

with 10 CFR 50.12.
