Docket No.

-237 Docket No. 50-2 Commonwealth Edison Company ATTN:

Mr. Cordell Reed Senior Vice President Post Office Box 767 Chicago, IL fi0690 Gentlemen:

SUBJECT~ EXAMINATION REPORT Mt'\\R 2 2 1990 During the week of February 20-23, 1990, the NRC administered examinations to employees of your organization who had applied for licenses to operate your Dresden Nuclear Power Station. At the conclusion of the examination, the examination questions and preliminary findings were discussed with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed report *

. Overall,.the NRC commends your staff for their cooperation in administering this examination.

Two programmatic concerns were identified during the examination evaluation as specified in paragraph 6 and the Simulation Facility Report. These include:

(1)

The facility pre-examination review did not appear to resolve examination inaccuracies as evidenced by the number of post examination comments.

(2)

Th~ lack of simulator fidelity. (e.g., spurious alarms, malfunction inadequacies, equipment abnormalities).

Because of the importance of the pre-exam review to the entire examination process, we request that you respond, with.in 60 days, with your plans to prevent recurrence of item (1), above.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosure(s) will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
