This refers to a meeting which I and members of my staff conducted with
representatives from your corporate office and Dresden station regarding
radiological conditions in the Unit 2/3 Radwaste Building at the Dresder1
station. This meeting was held in the Region III office on Septemb~r 20, 1989.
The purpose of this meeting was fo understand the current contamination status
of the Dresden radwaste sludge tank and spent resin tank rooms and your plans
for initiating action to cle~nup the rooms.
The enclosed copy of our report descri~es the subjects discussed during the
meeting.
During the meeting, you agreed to provide us with specific information, as
follo~s:. (1) your schedule for cleanup of the radwaste sludge tank and the.
spent resin tank rooms; (2) the groundwater level relative to these rooms; and
(3) your determination as to.whether any of the changes made thus far with
regard to radwaste operations, including operation of the sludge tanks,
resulted or should have resulted in iO CFR 50.59 reviews.
Please respond in
writing to these issues within 30 ~ays of the date of this letter.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's rules of pra~tice, Part 2,
Tith: 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter, the enclosure,
and your respose to this letter will be placed in the NRC's public document.
