Zion Station Units 1 and 2 Quad Cities-Station_Units 1 and 2 Dresden Station Units 2 and 3 "A Model Implementation Schedule" NRC Docket Nos. 50-295/304, 50-254/26~
and 50-237/249 Reference (a):
Letter from C.M. Allen to U.S. NRC dated January 1, 1987_.
Dear Sir:
Reference (a) contained our schedule for implementing the A Model at Commonwealth Edison's LaSalle, Zion, Quad Cities and Dresden Stations.
Since the transmittal of the reference letter, the. A Model has been successfully implemented at LaSalle County Station.
The purpose of this letter is to revise the previously tr~nsmitted schedules.
It has been determined that additional time will be required for complete A Model implementation at Zion, Quad Cities and Dresden Stations.
The revised target dates are as follows:
Zion Quad-Cities Dresden December 31, 1989 March 30,- 1990 May 30, 1990 There are four primary reasons for these schedule changes.
Recent QA enhancements require more formalized validation and verification of computer software before it can be considered operational, increasing the development time.
Additionally, there have been numerous scope changes which resulted from additional enhancements to the A-Model due to "lessons learned" at Byron, Braidwood and LaSalle.
These changes, in turn, have added time to the validation and verification process.
U.S. NRC 2 -
January 31, 1989 The remaining reasonsfor the changes in schedule are resource oriented.
Despite increased CECo staffing, the use of contractors and parallelin~ of A-Model activities at Zion, Quad Cities and Dresden when possible to expedite completion of this effort, there are limited experienced res~urces for completion of this effort within the earlier schedule.
- Lastly, Edison's expectations of efficiency associated with the implementation of multiple A-Models have not been fully realized.
Until these modifications are complete, the comp~nsatory measures outlined in previous c6rres~o~dence will be continued; If there are any questions regarding this matter; please contact this office.
