ENCLOSURE
'Pursuant to 10 CRF 50.54(f), you, as a BWR operating reactor or affirmation, your current plans relating to piping replacement, inspection, repair, and leakage detection. Your response should indicate whether you intend to follow the staff positions included in this letter, or propose alternatiTe *easures. 1 The staff positions outlined in Generic Letter 88-01 include positions on:
(1) Materials.
(2) Processes.
(3) later Chemistry.
(4) Weld 0Terlay.
(5) Partial ieplacement. (6)
Stress Improvement of Cracked leldments..(7) Clamping Devices.
(8) Crack Evaluation and iepair Criteria. (9) Inspection Method
- and Personnel.
(10) Inspection Schedules.
(11) Sample Expansion.
(12) Leak Detection. (13) ieporting iequirements.
Information was not supplied by Commonwealth Edison for Dresden, Unit 2 pertaining to items 7 or 8, the latter of which is of particular importance. Therefore, it is requested that Commonwealth Edison confirmlwhether :it accepts or proposes alternatives to NRC position pertaining to crack evaluation and repair criteria.

'An Inservice Inspection Program to be i.apleaented at the next refueling outage for austenitic stainless steel piping covered under the scope of this letter that conf oras to the staff positions on inspection schedules, aethods and personnel, and sample expansion included in this letter.*
Although a summary of the inspection plans for the September, 1Q88 refueling outage was provided, neither details (on a weld-b7-we.ld basis) of that inspection nor long-range plans was provided. Please supply that information for the next several refueling outages.
In addition, in order to provide a ha.Sis for evaluation of that information, please supply similar details for previous inspections.
Item 3. Plans for Mitigating Actions Generic Letter 88-01 requests on p. 3:
'Your current plans regarding pipe replacement and/or other measures taken or to be taken to mitigate IGSCC and provide assurance of continued long-tera piping integrity and reliability. 1 Please supply the detailed plans.,for mitigating actions for Dresden 2 (note: the Commonwealth Edison submittal provides only generalised plans). In addition, in order to provide a basis for an evaluation, please also supply the following (on a weld-b7-weld basis).
(1) descriptions of previous mitigating actions such as partial replacement, stress improvement, and weld overla7s.
(2) Justification/reasons for the classifications of IGSCC Category A, D, B, and F welds.
