- Based on the September 1, 1988, telephone conversation between Mr. Marvin Evans of t:1e Dresden Nuclear Generating Station and Mr. Gary Shear c>"f my staff, it is my understanding that September 21, 1988, was agreed upon as the date for Mr. Shear's site visit to tour the emergency response facilities of the Dresden Nuclear Generating Station.
Recent experience in the Federal Field Exercise identified the need for Region III to evaluate each licensee'~ emergency response facilities to determine if the NRC's Expanded Activati6n Site Team can be adequately accommodated.
IE Information Notice No. 86-18 ~escribed the planned composition and location of the NRC Site Team that would respond to a major nuclear power plant accident.
- Region III does not expect licensees to backfit to provide. increased facility space.
Facilitie~ that have been. constructed ~nd approved under current regulations and guidance may not have the capability to accommodate the NRC Expanded Site Team as outlined in Information Notice 86-18.
. Our goal is to consider with each lice~see, ways of making mor~ efficient use of available space, of providing adequate communications, and of identifying alternate space where relevant data could be made available in a timely, reliable manner.
Attached to this letter is an outline of the areas we will be reviewing.
