This refers to the special reactive inspection conducted by Mr. R. Smeenge of
this office on June 18, 1986, of activities at Dresden Nuclear Power Station,
Units 2 and 3 authorized by NRC Operating Licenses No. DPR-19 and No. DPR-25
and to the discussion of our findings with Messrs. Lloyd Sebby and Mike Strait
at the conclusion of the inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of observations,
and interviews with personnel. This inspection was conducted to observe damage
to cable jackets resulting from exposure to hydraulic fluid, which leaked from
the Electro-Hydraulic Control System, and to evaluate corrective action taken by
the Dresden Station staff. The short term corrective action appeared to
be adequate.
The long term corrective action will be the subject of a future
NRC inspection.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this
inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of
this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC
Public Document Room.
