ATTN:

Mr. Cordell Reed

Vice President

Post Office Box 767

Chicago, IL

60690

Gentlemen:

JAN 2 4 1986

This refers to the special safety inspection conducted by Messrs. M. M. Moser

and T. E. Taylor of this office on December 2-6 and 16-19, 1985, of activities at

Dresden Station, Units 2 and 3, authorized by NRC Operating Licenses No. DPR-19

and No. DPR-25.

It also refers to the discussion of our findings with

Mr. D. Scott and others of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our report identifies. areas examined during the inspection.

Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of

procedures and representative records, observations, and interviews with

personnel.

The primary purpose of this effort was to provide-followup inspection of issues

documented previously in Inspection Reports No. 50-237/85008 and No.

50-249/85007. Also, the preventive maintenance and maintenance history

programs were reviewed.

No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the inspection;

however, we feel that your progress in addressing our earlier concerns has not

been completely satisfactory. *For that reason, we request that you address in

writing any actions that you have taken or plan to take with regard to the four

recommendations in the enclosed report.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a) of the Commissions Regulations, a copy of

this letter and the inspection report will be placed in the NRC Public Document

Room.
