CONFIRNATION OF ACTION LE" Nov 2 o 1sa1 This refers to the telephone co:iiversation between Mr. c. E. Norelius and Nr. D. Scott and others of our respective staffs on November 19, 1981 regarding
. the diesel generator cooling\\.water pump operability at the Dresden station.
With regard to the matters discussed we understand that you will declare Unit 3 diesel generator inoperable with respect to ful..filling technical specification operability requirements until you have dem0nstrated the cause of the cooling water insufficiency that _occurred on November 19, 1981,.and taken corrective action, or have provided alternate assurances that the probability of a similar event occurring has been significantly reduced.
Except during tests which require otherwise, the Unit 3_ diesiH generator will be iined up f9r standby service.
During the period that the Unit 3 diesel generator is inoperable, you will:
- 1.
Vent the Unit 2 and 2/3 diesel generator cooling water pwnps approximately hourly.

- 2.
Pen:onstrate the operability of the Unit 2/3 diesel generator cooling water
. pum~ at least once per shift by operating the pump; and
- 3.
Operate the Unit 2/3 diesel generator cooling water pump to demonstrate 6j)erability i~...cdiately following any testing which may introduce air into the system.
