REGARDING RECOMMENDATION 2.1 OF THE NEAR-TERM TASK FORCE REVIEW OF INSIGHTS FROM THE FUKUSHIMA DAl-ICHI ACCIDENT
Dear Mr. Ray,
By letter dated July 6, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML17177A446), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) informed several licensees of the staff's plan to perform regulatory audits of responses concerning seismic hazard reevaluations (including seismic probabilistic risk assessments),
which are being completed as part of implementing lessons learned from the 2011 accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant in Japan.
Oconee Nuclear Station, Units 1, 2, and 3 (Oconee), was intended to be among the other licensees to whom the letter was addressed. However, Oconee was inadvertently omitted from the enclosure of addressees.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the aforementioned letter of July 6, 2017, applies to Oconee, and the NRC staff will be utilizing the audit process of NRC Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Office Instruction LIC-111, "Regulatory Audits," dated December 29, 2008 (ADAMS Accession No. ML082900195), when reviewing submittals from Oconee regarding reevaluated seismic hazard information. For additional details, please refer to the July 6, 2017, letter.
