DRESDEN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNITS 2 AND 3 - RESPONSE TO NRC BULLETIN 93-02, "DEBRIS PLUGGING OF EMERGENCY CORE COOLING SUCTION STRAINERS" (TAC NOS. M86S57 ANO" M86558)

This l et.ter acknowledges receipt of your* response dated June 10, 1993, to NRC Bulletin 93-02 (Bulletin).

The Bulletin was issued May 11, 1993, to all nuclear power reactor. licensees.. It requested licensees to identify fibrous material in the primary containment, take any* necessary cbmpensatory measures,

. and remove any such materials.

Your response stated that fibrous materiil is not utilized in the Dresden, Units 2 and 3, primary containment.

However, at the time the Bulletin was issued Dresden, Unit 2, :was in a fefueling 6utage.

Walkdowns of the drywell were conducted, and it was identified that blanket fibrous type insulation h~d been installed.

The insulation was removed and replaced with a qualified insulation prior to the Unit 2 restart on May 25, 1993~ On July l~, 1993, Unit 3 tripped off line from power operation and while th~ unit ~as off line on July 12, 1993, you inspected the Unit 3 drywell

  • and removed all fibrous material.

The resident inspector staff accompanied'
