REQUEST FOR CANCELLATION OF NRC ADMINISTERED OPERATOR REQUALIFICATION EXAMINATION DURING FEBRUARY 1993

P. Piet to B. Davis letter dated October 26, 1992
Dear Mr. Reed:
on October 29, 1992, Region III received a letter from Mr. Peter Piet, Nuclear Licensing Administrator, Dresden Nuclear Power station, requesting that the NRC cancel its participation in the scheduled February 1993 requalification examination.
In response to your request, we reviewed Dresden's past requalification examination performance.
We determined that, although the previous requalification examination results were satisfactory, several weaknesses were identified during the September 1991 and 1992 examinations.
, Specifically, operators demonstrated weaknesses in (a) usage of Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP), (b) application of Technical Specifications, and (c) crew communications.
Because of the identified weaknesses, it would not be appropriate to cancel an NRC administered exam for 1993.
However, our schedule does allow for postponing the exam until the July/August time frame.
