Dear Mr. Reed:.

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by

W. Rogers, D.*Hills and M. Peck of this office and assisted by

R. Zuffa of the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety on

October 20.through December 6, 1991, of activities at.Dresden

Nuclear Power Station, Units 2 and 3 authorized by NRC Operating

License Nos. DPR-19 and DPR-25 and to the discussion of our

findings with Mr. c. Schroeder and others at the conclusion of

the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas

examined during the inspection..

Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and

representative records, observations, and interviews with

personnel.

As discussed in section 3.f of the report, the inspectors had

specific questions concerning the replacement of primary

containment isolation system relays.

These questions are

considered an open item *. In section 7.d of the report, the

inspectors discussed licensee identified cable separation

requirements that were not met and the need for a licensee's

operability evaluation.

The operability evaluation is considered

unresolved.

We request that you respond within 60 *days of the

date of this. letter to the questions identified in section* 3.f

and provide an operability evaluation as addressed in section

7.d.

No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the

course of this inspection.

In accordance with 10 C.FR 2. 7~0, of the *Commission's regulations,**

a copy of this letter and the enclosure(s) will be placed in the

NRC Public Document Room.
