REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION QUAD CITIES 1&2 AND DRESDEN 2&3 CONTAINMENT PURGE/VENT VALVES 1.0 18.0 Inch Butterfly Valve~
1.1 Describe how each of the valve installations, relative to the piping con-figurations, have been reviewed to assure that the dvMmic toro11P. coef-ficients (Ct) developed by Flu~d dynamtc testi*ng are applicable to the*
Dresden & Quad Cities valve~. Ct can be affected uy shaft orientation relative to close proximity.-Qf upstream elbows and disc closure direction relative to these close proximity upstream elbows.
1.2 Do the operators have maximum torque rating(sJ as established by the manufacturer?
How does it compare to the maximum torque developed dur-
- ing the accfdent postulated? Does combined loading of spring and dynamic torque affect any parts of the operator to the extent that they become the limiting factor?
1.3 Describe the extent to which the valve assembly (valve and operator) is seismically qualified?
1.4 Describe the extent to which the pilot solenoid valves are seismically qualified and environmentally qualified for long tenn exposure to the
-normal plant environment.
Do the elastomeric parts, solenoids, etc have
. a qualified design life where periodic replacement of parts is required?
1.5 Describe the extent to which the operators are seismically qualified and environmentally qualified for long tenn exposure to the nonnal plant*
environment.
Do the elastomeric parts in the *operator have a qualified design life where periodic replacement is required?
1.6 Do the elastomeric parts.in the valve body have a qualified design life?
Are they required to be replaced periodically? Describe what inservice testing/inspections are accomplished to check the integrity of the: seals.
1.7 Has the stress analysis been reviewed by H. Pratt?
1.8 Provide an assessment of the structural capability of any ducting or piping in the purge system which is upstream or downstream of the valves and is exposed to the flow condition associated with the LOCA and the seismic
- event. The staff is particularly interested in the effects that loose,*
debris from the pipe or duct system may have on the closure capability of these valves.
