10,
1994, at the Susquehanna
Steam Electric Station
(SSES),
Salem Township,
Areas relevant to the health
and safety of the public examined
during the inspection
are described
in the enclosed report.
At the conclusion
of the inspection,
Hs H. Banerjee,
Senior Resident
Inspector,
summarized
the
inspection findings with Hr.'.
G. Stanley
and other members of your staff.
Overall,
we observed station activities performed in a safe
and effective
manner.
Effective management
oversight resulted in a performance
improvement
plan to improve
human performance
in response
to an inadvertent half scram
during surveillance testing.
Your staff's identification and documentation of
engineering deficiencies for safety-related
equipment
was
a strength.
However,
we noted that communication
and coordination
among your staff to
achieve timely resolution of these deficiencies
was not fully effective.
We
understand
that your Continuous
Process
Improvement
Program for Corrective
Actions is expected to improve performance
in this area.
In accordance
with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice,"
a copy of
this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the
NRC Public Document
Room.
