NRC REGION I COMBINED INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-387/93-08
AND 50-388/93-08
The enclosed report documents the safety inspection conducted by Messrs. P. D. Drysdale
and T. J. Kenny, on August 16-20, 1993, at the Pennsylvania Power and Light Corporate
Engineering Offices in Allentown, Pennsylvania,
at the Susquehanna
Steam Electric Station
(SSES), in Salem Township, Pennsylvania,
and at the NRC Region I office in King of
Prussia, Pennsylvania.
The inspection covered the engineering and technical support
organizations,
the installation and testing of plant modifications, and the motor-operated
valve program for both units. At the conclusion of the inspection, Mr. Drysdale and
Mr. Kenny summarized the inspection findings with Mr. T. Dalpiaz and other members of
your staff.
This inspection concluded with a review of the status of the inspection findings
with Mr. G. Jones of your staff on November 9, 1993.
The purpose of the inspection was to determine whether NRC licensed activities were being
conducted safely and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
The specific areas
examined during the inspection are important to public health and safety and are identified in
the enclosed report.
Within these areas,
the inspection consisted of selective examinations of
procedures
and representative
records, interviews with personnel,
and observation of
activities in progress.
