SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF QUARTERLY MEETING WITH PENNSYLVANIA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY (PP&L)
A meeting was held on October 7, 1992, at the PP&L corporate office in Allentown, Pennsylvania, between members of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of the licensee.
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the status of current licensing issues and to give the licensee an opportunity to present issues that will potentially be submitted in the future.
A list of attendees is enclosed.
Discussions were made on all open licensing actions for Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) with emphasis on what actions are necessary, on the part of the licensee and/or the NRC staff, to bring the various licensing issues to closure.
The more significant items discussed include the pending resolutions to Erosion/Corrosion investigations being performed during the current Unit 2 refueling outage, Water Level Instrumentation, Thermo-Lag and Kaowool, proposed differences to the Boiling Water Reactor Owner's Group Emergency Procedure Guidelines, two potential Part 2ls, GL 88-01 Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking issues, and PP&L's Individual Plant Examination (IPE) submittal.
Significant discussion surrounded the topic of the IPE.
The staff discussed apparent problems that were encountered during the review of the licensee's IPE submittal.
A meeting was proposed between the appropriate management level of the NRC and PP&L to discuss potential resolutions to the staff's concerns.

Meeting Attendees The licensee's involvement in the Power Uprate program, efforts in progress for Design Basis Documentation reconstitution, a proposed White Paper pertaining to Appendix R of Part 50, and the licensee's plans to hold a Senior Management Meeting in the December-January time-frame were also discussed.
