ducted

by the

NRC staff on September

26,

1989.

The results of this evaluation

were described

in SALP Report 50-387/88-99

and 50-388/88-99.

This report was

forwarded to you on October, 13,

1989,

and was discussed

with you in a manage-

ment meeting held

on October 31,

1989 in the

NRC Region

I office in King of

Prussia,

PA.

The operation, of the Susquehanna

facility was characterized

by a strong safety

culture.

Internal

and external

communications

were noteworthy strengths.

Performance

in individual functional areas

varied

somewhat but generally remained

very strong.

Performance

in Engineering

Support

improved, while, performance

in Emergency

Preparedness

declined.

An improving trend was noted in Radiological

Controls and

a declining trend was noted in Safety Assessment/guality

Verification.

Continued strong performance

was observed

in the Security/Safeguards

area.

Your SALP response

of November 20,

1989,

has

been

reviewed

and your concerns

expressed

about our report during the October

31 meeting were addressed.

The initial SALP report was changed

to clarify the Maintenance

and Safety

Assessment/guality

Verification sections

regarding

the training of maintenance

personnel.

The Final

SALP Report is attached

as Enclosure

1.
