A. Sabol and other members of your staff and Nr.
R. Gallo and other members of the NRC staff at our Region I office, King of Prussia, PA on February 15, 1989.
The
-meeting was held at the request of your staff and public notice for the meeting was given January 31, 1989.
Attendees are listed in Enclosure 1.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss your current self assessment of company functions for planning into the 1990s and for your staff to discern future initiatives and expectations from the NRC.
No commitments were sought or made by either staff.
Your staff presented the current status of a self assessment program which is being performed by your Nuclear guality Assurance Department (NgA).
This self assessment consisted of interviews with PP8L N(A personnel and other staff to get their opinions on company good and bad points,
- trends, process improve-
- ments, new initiatives, and motivational and demotivational activities.
This self assessment was an initiative directed by company management to improve company competitiveness and plant safety.
We understand that these interviews have been completed and the results are being analyzed.
A. report on the survey results and recommendations for. changes is expected to be completed by mid April 1989.

Heyers is planning a
similar self assessment of the entire PP8L Nuclear Department which is expected to be completed by April 1990.
Our staff presented a synopsis of current policy and planned future initiatives in the areas of nuclear power plant maintenance, engineering
- support, gA and gC oversight, use of commercial grade materials in safety related
- systems, and NRC inspection activities.
The information was presented to you in order to improve plant safety.
All information discussed by our staff is currently available in the public docket.
We believe that this meeting was beneficial to both PP8L and the HRC.
