This refers to the routine safety inspection
conducted
by Messers
R.
L. Nimitz
and J. J.
Kottan of this office on December
10
14,
1984 at the Susquehanna
Steam Electric Station,
Units
1 and 2, Berwick, Pennsylvania.
The findings of
our inspection
were discussed
with Mr.
H. Keiser of your staff at the
conclusion of the inspection.
Areas
examined during this inspection
are described
in the
NRC Region I
Inspection
Report which is enclosed with this letter.
Within these
areas,
the
inspection of your Radiological Controls
and Chemistry
Program consisted of
selective
examinations of procedures
and representative
records,
interviews
with personnel,
and observations
by the inspector.
Our Mobile Laboratory was also brought to your site
and
used
by the inspector
to make certain
independent
measurements.
The purpose of these
independent
measurements
is to verify your capability for analyzing radioactive effluents,
and to achieve
and maintain comparable
methods of analyses
between your
facility and the
NRC.
The complete data
from, these
measurements
will be
reported in a subsequent
Inspection
R'eport.
Within the
scope of this inspection,
no violations were observed.
In
accordance
with 10 CFR 2.790(a),
a copy of this letter and the enclosure
will be placed in the
NRC Public Document
Room.
