This refers to the telephone discussion between Mr. J.

Calhoun, Senior Vice-President - Nuclear, and myself on July 26, 1984, concerning. the loss of A.

C. power during certain tests performed at Susquehanna, Unit 2 on July 26, 1984.

Mith regard to this matter, it is my understanding that the following actions have been or will be undertaken:

(1)

Unit 2 is being taken to cold shutdown; (2)

Pennsylvania Power and Light, Co., will not restart Unit 2 until the following actions are taken or conditions met; (a) perform a thorough investigation into the causes and implications of the loss of A.

C. power event; (b) correct deficiencies identified as a result of the above investigation; (c) brief the Regional Administrator or his designee on the results of the investigation and the corrective actions taken or planned; and (d) obtain the approval of the Regional Administrator, or his designee, prior to restarting Unit 2.

If our understanding of your planned actions described above is'ot in accordance with your actual plans and actions being implemented, you should notify this office by telephone within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> of your receipt of this letter.

Region I will be reviewing this matter to determine what further action, if any, should be required.
