Subject:
Operability of Containment Purge and Vent Valves for Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Units 1 and 2
The NRC staff has completed fts review of information submitted fn PP&L letter dated April 13, 1983 concerning operability of containment purge and vent valves for Susquehanna, Units 1 and 2.
The enclosed Safety Evaluation Report (SER) addresses Containment Systems Branch (CSB) Technical Position 6.4 and Standard Review Plan 3.10, Containment Isolation Depend-ability 'bye demondtratfon of Containment Purge and Vent Valve Operability.
The NRC staff finds the information submitted demonstrated the qualification of the 18-inch and 24-inch valves to close against the buildup of containment pressure fn the event of a loss of coolant accident (LOCA).
Before operating containment vent and purge valves on Susquehanna, Unit 1 per License Condition 2.C.(5)(c) contained fn Amendment No. 12 to Facility Operating Lfcense No. 14, PP&L must provide a revfsed Technical Specification Table 3.6.3-1 for the Maximum Isolation Time (Seconds) for"Containment,Purge Valves to demonstrate qualification per the criteria of Branch Technical Position CSB 6.4.
The enclosed SER will be incorporated into a future Supplement to NUREG-0776; SER Related to the Operation of Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Unfts 1
