Dear l1r. Curtis:

Subject:

Gas Pipeline Hear Susquehanna Facility - License Condition 2.C.(13)(c) r In a letter dated February 25, 1983, Pennsylvania Power

& Light provided a description of permanent modifications to the 12-inch gas pipeline near the Susquehanna facility which would limit flow to 39 m /sec, precluding a flammable mixture at the facility air intakes.

In addition to modifications of the Sh.ickshinny.station previously-reviewed

'nd approved by the staff, PP&L proposed the installation of a Grove Flexflo valve in the pipeline, that it would act as a check valve, precluding flow from Berwick in the event of a pipe rupture near the Susquehanna facility.

The NRC staff has reviewed the February 25, 1983, submittal and finds it to be an acceptable approach.

The submittal meets the requirements of License Condition 2.C.(13)(c) of the Susquehanna Unit 1 operating'icense.

Sincerely, cc:
