SUBJECT:

SUSQUEHANNA OL REVIEW, PENNSYLVANIA PONE% ~ LIGHT COMPANY-GKT. NOS.

50-387A and 50-388A TELEPHONE INTERVIEM MI H SOUTHERN MARYLANO ELECTRIC COOPED,ITIVE, INC.

On June 5,

1980 the undersigned telephoned Mr, Malter Smith, Executive, Vice President, of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, Inc.

(SKCO) to discuss certain reports which have come to our attention concerning possible participation by SMECO in generation ventures with Allecheny Cooperative, Inc. (Allegheny).

SMECQ is a large independent cooperative with a 1977 peak load of about 225 HA.

Mr. Smith reports that SMECO's relations with Allegheny have always been good.

Allegheny presently is constructing an anthracite coal plant and has offered an ownership share of this plant to SMECO.

After conducting a preliminary study, SMECQ decided that there >>ould be too many wheeling charges necessary from other utilities to make the project feasible.

SMECO has also considered possible participation in the Susquehanna nuclear units.

Once again,

however, the numerous wheeling charges that would be involved would 'ake such participation uneconomical.

'lthough SMECQ has thus far. been unable to join in any ventures wi th Al 1 egneny, Mr. Smith bel eves that SMECO has been given a

air opportunity to do so Respectful ly submi tted, Counsel for.'tRC Staff sxoaouo lo>
