SUBJECT:

SUtttIARY OF tIARCH 18, 1981 MEETING BETWEEN PP8IL AND NRC STAFF RELATIVE TO SUSQUEHANNA UNITS 1

8'I 2 On March 18, 1981, a meeting was held between Messrs.

R. K. Campbell, J.

Kaufmann and N. Curtis of Pennsylvania Power 8 Light Co.

(PP8L) and Messrs.

W. Dircks, H. Denton, D. Eisenhut and R. Stark of the NRC staff.

The applicant requested this meeting in a February 12, 1981 letter to the Commission.

The applicant discussed the importance of the staff's licensing schedule and indicated that this licensing schedule will delay plant startup and result in unnecessary costs to PP8L and its customers.

We indicated that the NRC is comoitted to completing the licensing action on this OL application-in as timely a fashion as possible, con-sistent with public safety and legal constraints.

We further stated that the "Class 9 accident" (Supplement 2 to the DES) was in a final review phase.

In addition, we stated that the Susquehanna SER was expected to be available by April 10, 1981, subject to the receipt of PP8L final positions to staff questions.
