JKnight RTedesco During our operating license review oi'several BWR applications, the Mechanfcal Engineering Branch (MEB) fdentfffed an open issue applicable to all Mark II and Nark III plants, and perhaps the Mark I plants.

The issue fs whether the OBE and SRV responses should be considered separately or combined-during ASME Code fatfgue analyses.

This issue was briefly discussed at the August 28,. 1980, meeting between the NRC and BWR Lfcensing Review Group (LRG).

Since LaSalle fs the lead plant from the LRG, I am advising you of our proposed course of action.

We believe that this issue can be quickly resolved on a generic basis by performing a detailed review of a,few sample calculations; Therefore, the-MEB plans to send tao of fts contract personnel from Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratories to GE-San Jose to review the following ASME Code fatigue ciIcula-tions.

The samples are to be chosen by GE emphasizing highly fatigued components while covering a variety of pipes, nozzles, and fnternals.

GE should have avaflable for our review three sampl.e calculations for LaSalle and one each for Zimer, Shoreham, Fermi,. Susquehanna, WNP-'

and Grand Gulf; This proposed vfCft has,been discussed by. Randy Stephens (NRC) and Rudy Villa (GE) and a tentative date of October 7, 1980 has been agreed uoon.
