This refers to the meeting held at the Susquehanna.

Steam Electric Station, Berwick, Pennsylvania, on January 16, 1979, at your request.

This meeting was related to activities authorized by NRC License No.

CPPR-101 and was attended by members of my staff and representatives from PPSL

Company, General Electric Company (I8SE), Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), Bechtel Corporation and Factory Mutual Insurance Company.

The attendance list is enclosed as a separate attachment.

The subject discussed at this meeting was the preservice-examination results of the reactor pressure vessel recirculation nozzle safe end extension piece welds.

The licensee's contractors, GE Co,

ISSE, and SwRi, presented the results of the ultrasonic and radiographic examina-tions of these welds.

This included contractor evaluation of reflectors revealed in the ultrasonic examinations and linear indications present in radiographs of selected welds.

Me understand that it is your company's position that the conditions observed in these preservice examinations are not a 10 CFR 50.55(e) reportable item.

Final disposition of this matter by PP8IL Co. is still pending.

In accordance with Section 2.790 of NRC's "Rules of Practice,"

Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed attendance list will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
