This refers to the routine inspection
conducted
by H. Hiller and F.
Gee during
the period from February
2 through March 8,
1993.
This inspection
examined
your activities
as authorized
by
NRC License
Nos.
At the
conclusion of the inspection,
the inspectors
discussed
their findings with
members of the
PG&E staff.
Areas
examined during this inspection
are described
in the enclosed
inspection
report.
Within these
areas,
the inspection consisted of selective
examina-
tions of procedures
and representative
records,
interviews with personnel,
and
observations
by the inspectors.
Paragraph
4 of the enclosed
report discusses
the failures of several
electrical
cables
associated
with components
located in the intake structure.
As discussed
during several
telephone
conference calls
on the subject,
we
recognize that you have taken acti on to identify the root cause of these
failures
and have completed
replacement
of the circulating water
pump and
auxiliary salt water
pump l-l cables
in that section of cable run where cable
deterioration
was experienced.
In addition,
we understand
that you intend
as
a diagnostic
measure
to replace
an entire circuit of the circulating water
pump cables
in Unit 2.
We encourage
you to aggressively
continue your review
efforts to determine
the root causes
for these failures,
No violations or deviations
were identified within the scope of this
inspection.
In accordance
with 10
CFR 2.790(a),
a copy of this letter and the enclosure
will be placed in the
NRC Public Document
Room.
