DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 1 - SUSPENDING REVIEW OF LICENSE RENEWAL COMMITMENT NO. 42 SUBMITTALS (CAC NO. MF7626)
Dear Mr. Boles:
By letter dated April 21, 2016 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML16112A079), as supplemented by letters dated September 26, 2016, and February 22, 2017 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML16270A447 and ML17054D480, respectively), FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC, the licensee) provided information regarding the fatigue monitoring program evaluation for Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1. These submittals were in response to license renewal Commitment No. 42.
The licensee's September 26, 2016, and February 22, 2017, letters were in response to requests for additional information (RAls) issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on August 26, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16242A008), and January 23, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16364A279), respectively.
The licensee's February 22, 2017, letter only included a partial response to the NRC staff's January 23, 2017, RAI. However, in the letter, the licensee committed to complete an additional evaluation and provide the results by April 28, 2017. The letter indicates that the results of this evaluation, once provided to the NRC, will complete the licensee's response to the January 23, 2017, RAI.
The NRC staff is suspending its review of the licensee's submittals regarding license renewal Commitment No. 42, because the information the staff needs to complete its review will not be provided for some time. This letter closes CAC No. MF7626. The staff will resume its review once the licensee submits the results of its evaluation, as committed to in in its February 22, 2017, letter, and completes its response to the staff's January 23, 2017, RAI.
