SUBJECT:
NINE MILE POINT ENGINEERING FOLLOWUP INSPECTION 98-10
Dear Mr. Mueller:
This letter refers to the engineering followup inspection conducted from June 15-19, 1998
and July 6-7, 1998, at Nine Mile Point Units
1 and 2. 'he purpose of the inspection was
to determine whether activities authorized by the license were conducted safely, and in
accordance with NRC requirements.
At the June'19, 1998, meeting after the first week,
and the July 7, 1998, exit meeting, the findings were discussed with you and other
members of your staff. Additional findings were also discussed with Mr. G. Gresock and
Mr. T. Page of your staff in two telephone calls on June 26 and July 10, 1998.
The inspection was directed toward areas important to public health and safety.
The area
examined during this inspection included your corrective actions and actions to prevent
recurrence for previously identified engineering inspection findings.
The inspector determined that your corrective and preventive actions for the escalated
enforcement items and violations were acceptable.
Also, your corrective actions for the
unresolved engineering items and the inspection followup item were found adequate.
All
items inspected were closed.
The inspector also determined that the QA audits and ISEG
assessment
reviewed by the inspector were thorough and of good quality.
No response to this letter is required, and your cooperation with us in this matter is
appreciated.
