NRC OFFICE OF INVESTIGATIONSREPORT NO. 1-96-015-NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION: WRONGDOING INVOLVINGTHE COMPUTER PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH FITNESS-FOR-DUTY
Dear Mr. Sylvia:
In a letter to you dated December 12, 1997, NRC Region I provided a synopsis of the subject Office of Investigation Report.
We also notified you that, based on the conclusions in that report, there was an apparent violation of 10 CFR 26.24 regarding random Fitness-for-Duty screening.
Our letter provided you the opportunity to either respond to the apparent violation within 30 days of the date of the letter or request a predecisional enforcement conference.
On December 23, 1997, in a telephone conversation between Mr. Martin McCormick of your staff and Mr. Lawrence T. Doerflein of this office, Mr. McCormick informed us that the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NMPC) intended to respond in writing to the apparent violation. However, since NMPC did not receive the letter until December 19, 1997, and because of the staff time off due to the holidays, Mr. McCormick requested that the response due date be extended until January 30, 1998.
This is to inform you that we approved the extension request.
