Mexico, NY 13114 Dear Hs.

Gagne and Hs.

Downing:

Hay 1997 By letter of Hay 13,

1997, you acknowledge receipt of the NRC Meeting Summary for the April 14,
1997, meeting on the Nine Mile Point Unit 1 core shroud that I forwarded to you on April 28, 1997.

You also acknowledge that a video tape recording of the meeting is available through the NRC Public Document Room (PDR), but since some people do not have VCRs, you request that the NRC produce a written transcript from the video tape.

I am informed that a

VCR is available for public use on the second floor of the local PDR located at Penfield Library at State University of New York in Oswego.

Non-proprietary versions of the various documents mentioned during the taped sessions are also available at this location.

I trust you will find this facility convenient for your review purposes.

If not, you are encouraged to provide your comments to the local librarian (Hs.

Mary Bennett) or to the NRC's PDR staff (Hs. Jona

Souder, LPDR Program Manager; or Ms. Teresa
Linton, LPDR Information Services Librarian) at 800-638-8081.

You state that in a phone conversation after the meeting, I indicated that a

written meeting transcript was "being worked on" and would be available in the PDR in the next "couple of days."

As I recall the conversation, I was referring to the meeting summary I was preparing at the time and subsequently forwarded to you, the

PDR, and the LPDR on April 25, 1997.

I regret any misunderstanding during this conversation, but in view of the existing meeting record via tapes and written summary, the expenditure of funds to produce a

written transcript is unwarranted.

Sincerely,

/s/
