Dear Mr. Sylvia:
SUBJECT:
RESULTS OF INSPECTION OF HIGH PRESSURE CORE SPRAY NOZZLE SAFE-END EXTENSION WELD DURING THIRD REFUELING OUTAGE (TAC NO.
M86964)
By letter dated July 8,
- 1993, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NMPC) committed to continue to monitor at each refueling outage an indication in the weld joining the high pressure core spray nozzle safe end to safe-end extension and, if the ultrasonic inspection shows any growth above the defined acceptance criteria, to implement a weld overlay repair.
The NRC staff approved this commitment in its letter and safety evaluation dated August 27, 1993.
NMPC advised the staff of the results of ultrasonic inspection of the high pressure core spray weld during the current (third) refueling outage in a letter dated November 4, 1993.
Consistent with the staff's safety evaluation dated August 27,
- 1993, no repair of the weld is required during this refueling outage since inspection results are within the acceptance criteria.
The staff appreciates NHPC advising us of the results of the recent ultrasonic inspection, and we request to be advised of the results of future inspections of the high pressure core spray weld.
Sincerely, cc:
